The branding journey of private label in Europe. Cases: Tesco & Waitrose - Great Britain, Mercadona & Continente - Iberia, Conad & Coopp - Italy

The journey explores the evolving characteristics of retailer brand segmentation and positioning in four major European countries using data, product examples, and comparisons.
The evolution of these markets, and the brands analyzed in detail, is evidenced by the high market shares of private label products (Spain, Portugal, and Great Britain) and by the highest growth trends in the premium private label segments (Italy and Great Britain). This is due to the launch of increasingly high-quality retailer-brand products, even in categories with strong national brands (e.g., confectionery, pastry products, healthy food, cosmetics, detergents).
By the end of this journey, it will understand how growing competition among retailers is increasingly pushing them to act as "brand owners," not just with their store banners, but also through their original, distinctive, and exclusive products on the shelves. The appreciation of shoppers and consumers is clearly confirmed by seemingly limitless performances that shatter old prejudices.

PPWR and GPSR Regulations – new requirements for market placement, labeling, and documentation. What is the responsibility of the brand owner, and what falls under the contract manufacturer?

The presentation will focus on new regulations that cover various categories of FMCG products and their packaging. The GPSR – General Product Safety Regulation – introduced significant changes regarding, among other things, the labeling and documentation of various products, as well as product communication in online stores. Different products are subject to GPSR to varying degrees. The division of responsibilities depends on whether information (name, trademark) is provided on the packaging.

The PPWR – Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation – applies to all entities that professionally use packaging in their operations, but the brand owner will often be responsible for meeting many of the new requirements (e.g., documentation, labeling, and packaging safety).

FOODLAW/PRODUCTLAW experts will present the basic requirements contained in the GPSR and PPWR from the perspective of a private label owner.
